On the saddle, clipped in, taking hold, pedal around, breathe in, smile out, head up... I had a date with my bike, JD. After June where I did 3 tris in 3 weeks, I needed a break. I retired the bike for July and ran 100miles in 4 weeks. Yesterday I did an XTERRA tri in Pennsylvania. Drove 4 hrs to get there, 4.5 hrs to get home. And yes, I live in PA.
Out of the swim, I must have been the 5th woman. But, I felt like that was the slowest swim ever for me! I took the bike on...it was a challenging course of 11miles of lots of climbs, and some of the challenge were the riders in front of me...umm, excuse me...but...can you...GET OUT OF MY WAY? Men don't like when women pass them on the bike. So I was the second woman into transition on the bike. Not bad...so I set off on the run. A good 4.5 trail run with many hills to climb and open path to take fast, but right before I climbed a big hill...I got stung by a BEE....in the HEAD! Right on the occipital lobe(must have been after my ponytail)...nice bump there today. I screamed so loud when it happened I freaked the guys in front of me....they thought I was jumped! But that bee hurt bad! Messed with my psyche too! Barely climbed up the hill and then about 3/4s thru the run, a woman caught up to me. I let her pass me....yes, I let her pass me ( I would rather chase her, than she chase me). I kept her in sight. I knew where I was going to take her on a downhill and as I approached the downhill...I got STUNG again! On the ankle! I think I am too sweet...too sweet to guys....too sweet for bees...too sweet for athletes. They all mess with me! So I came in third place overall (female), first in my age group, and my time was under 2hrs. Yeah Me! Go Team Me! Free Hugs to Me!
I really enjoyed hanging out with my XTERRA friends and fellow ambassadors this weekend. I also enjoyed the heat I got for missing the Maryland race. I love surprising friends who didn't think I was coming to this race. You really don't know me, if you don't know that I really like to go for the shock and awe factor (all good too)! I loved seeing family and friends be soo supportive of their athletes! Support is everything to every athlete! And I love seeing XTERRA baptisms at the beginning of the race. This race is new to the circuit and so it brought many new members to the XTERRA family!
