Virginia is for Lovers... I can fall in love with it.

Took a trip a few hours south to Richmond, VA and visit with friends, Patti & Jon. They are part of the XTERRA family and a very athletic couple. I have done a couple of HIMs with Patti and looking to race Eagleman with both Patti & Jon this June. They are also thinking of racing XTERRA East Championship in Richmond (the following weekend) too! We need to get Patti on the mountain bike! She's a great cyclist! Maybe her Tsali, the cutest puppy in Richmond, can convince her to try the mountain bike.
I brought the road bike... next trip I might just invest in a bike rack, b/c there's lots of great mountain biking trails, running trails, and scenic road riding.
We got our swim on Friday night, and Saturday we set out for our 36 mile bike ride in Richmond. It was windy.. and when we thought it would warm up, it became cooler?!
Then we met up with Jon and his friends back at the house, they rode 40 miles of trails at Pocahontas that morning before we headed out to NAHBS. We had a lot of fun at the show, and the free blue moon was really tasty. My favs were Poka, Engin, Scrub components, the dude with the glasses at the Twin Six booth (you beat my Granogue time by 20 mins, and I did 4 laps like you on the Enduro: rematch?), Sheila from Sheila Moon.. thanks for letting us have some fun with chic bike clothing! Groovy bikes.. were bangin' and Peacock Gro0ve needs to get "beer" cages down right, we wouldn't want them to fall out..

So we had every intention to go to Sticky Rice for some sushi after the show, and a good pre-race meal for the Colonial Half Marathon on Sunday... but that one FREE Blue Moon changed our fate and half marathon times. After that beer, we set out with the group to Capital Ale House where there was a benefit for MORE, a benefit for the trail system in Richmond with some good beer, good eats, and good bluegrass music, and lets just say MORE seemed to be the theme for the rest of our evening, because not only did we want to stay for MORE, but we wanted to eat More, drink More, and spend More... What a super fun night, and and super fun people!

When we all woke up Sunday morning... coffee was our friend. The crisp air and sunshine helped too. Those tasty carb loading beers the night before, were kicking our ass in the morning. We were grateful the run wasn't until 1pm.
We pulled into William & Mary College around noon... and the clouds came out so it got much cooler. We were all agreeing on the shorts for the run... but the long sleeve vs the short sleeve was still debating.. Long sleeve it was. The wind was picking up as the afternoon went on. We were a bit gun shy at the start, somewhere in the middle trying to stay warm, that we didn't even hear the gun start. The course was challenging with downhills and uphills (I am staying away from the words "rolling hills" b/c unless I am on a set of wheels, I am not "rolling"), off road patches, cross country drop ins, wooden bridge, on a gravel cement(?) trail path in the woods, and some roads. But the wind combined with the hills made for good beantown training. Mile 11 a had to dig down a bit, and all of a sudden I got competive.. passing. Wearing shorts was a treat... but not so much for the people I was blinding with my pasty white legs!
Anywho.. came out with 1:39.. with no timing chips at this run? its 2010 and sponsored by Anheuser- Busch? jus sayin..
Lots of fun with free beer at the end (are you catching onto the theme yet?). Patti came first in her age group and I came in second in mine (really 3rd, b/c one of the ladies was bumped up to the top 10). Jon finished strong in his AG: 17th and one of the largest AG fields.
Then it was time for home... back in the prius and back to the snow globe, the place in PA I call home. Looking forward to seeing my doggie dog! Made it home within 4hrs, record time. DMB Live kept me company the whole way home.
